Chapter 6

Matthias, having finished his introductory speech, surveyed the myriad of newbs– newly woken folk– and savored the high levels of diversity in the room, all of them peering up at him; some as if he were God, and to others he was Satan incarnate. All of them awestruck and in disbelief.

The fresh members were always the most challenging, and that is precisely why Matthias volunteered for the task of guiding newbs. It probably played a role in his decision to undertake the search for the Essence of the Soul, as no task within the WUC was more difficult than this.

Matthias- he was fortunate enough to awaken at “The Rapture”, but for those who would wake up later on, and especially for those possessing very little spiritual energy, it’s always a very rude awakening.

“Any questions?”

The some hundred newbs that stood before him emitted nothing but a deathly silence– well, that’s what you would think. But he felt the intense surges of spiritual energy that radiated from the crowd. If only a few newbs were present, it might have been very faint, since all individuals of high energy levels had already woken in The Rapture. But as their thoughts connected, merged, and bonded with each other…It was beautiful!

And what is even more amazing, was that he could read their thoughts. Matthias had the very rare gift of being telepathic. So when he asked if there were any questions, he already knew from experience that there wouldn’t be any- at least not in the verbal sense.

But everyone always has questions– the silence was actually due to everyone having too many questions- so much that they were overwhelmed by their own curiosity.

This makes things so much easier, though. After all, everyone is so much more honest in their thoughts than in their words- it’s human nature. This way, he could collect everyone’s true thoughts on all of this, and everything would be lucid from the very start.

And more importantly, this way he could capitalize on an opportunity to break everyone out of their disbelief and denial, and skip all the psychological bullshit. Matthias was a good teacher, and no man was for this job than him. But he was very impatient, and sometimes his conviction got the best of him, admittedly.

Telepathy is an ability so rare and specialized that no one can pass it off as “normal” or “coincidence”. Alrighty then, he thought excitedly to himself…Let’s get this crash course rolling!

After extracting the phone numbers from each and every newb in the room, he sent out the initial responses to their phone numbers, texting messages to all of their cell phones at once, and by that I mean, at the same instant.

Matthias loved mathematics, and as he determined the initial answers he should give (crucial important, considering the group dynamics present in such a large group of people), nostalgia overtook him as he considered the simplicity of “like-terms” which somehow becomes so amazing and awesome when applied to people. That is: answer a few questions that everyone had in common, then sit back and watch things take care of themselves.

He smiled almost mischievously, as he anticipated the chaos, confusion, fear, and excitement, that awaited.

A master of multitasking and micro-management, Matthias could collect, organize, and respond to all of their questions with ease- so much that he was given the name Hermes- an allusion to the Greek god known for his flight, incredible speed, and most importantly, his role as messenger of the gods.

To become a “prophet”- that is, a veteran W.U.C., there are two primary stages in the rites of initiation: the Microscillation and Macroscillation.

The first stage focuses on understanding the newb as an individual- and more importantly, for them to understand their own true nature. To achieve this, it’s most important to perceptively separate the self from the environment. Once their true nature was both understood and accepted (by both themselves and others), they were given a name that best harmonized with that nature; Matthias’ name was also decided upon is this manner.

It’s important to note that although every name is decided upon by the WUC community (by vote), the individual receiving the name can veto (reject) any name for any reason, or even no reason at all. But whether or not a person chooses to veto a name, and their reason(s) for doing so– these things play a huge role in determining their collective (social) character, as well as their will and integrity.

The deciding upon and accepting of the first name marks the end of the Microscillation, and the beginning of the Macroscillation. Whereas the former focuses on the understanding and accepting of the individual (and the true nature thereof), the latter is dedicated to understanding and accepting the WUC community, and its true nature.

Once a newb has achieved a high level of intimacy and fidelity to themselves and, by extension the community, the individual will progress to deciding a future; that is, what their role within WUC.org will be.

Unlike the Microscillation, which is limited to the self, the Macroscillation is an ongoing, theoretically eternal journey, because while the individual is limited in potential, the collective is infinite.

The last name is decided once a person understands and accepts their role within W.U.C., and [of course] when the newb accepts the name to be attached to that role. Upon embracing their first and last names, and thus accepting all responsibilities attached to these names, a newb becomes a prophet- that is, a true leader.

Even before the Rapture, a person’s name has always played a huge role in the fate of individuals, and of the collective to which one belongs. The individual actions will either honor or dishonor the family name, and names have a stigma attached to them so spiritually powerful that they continue to heavily influence the fate of the world, even long after going out of style.

Every object, person, living thing, and entity is filled with spiritual energy; the relative importance is determined by the amount of spiritual energy, and vice-versa. Since a person’s name is so universally important, it must contain an enormous amount of spiritual energy. That’s where here at the W.U.C., the choosing of names of so meticulously emphasized.

Matthias lowered his head to hide the smirk on his face and twinkle in his eye- preparations were now complete.

For those specializing in the esoteric arts, focus is key. Be it an object, word, language, or physical gesture, there needs to be something to store the energy in, and a means by which to release the energy, and decide its form, intensity, and nature.

In both a homage to the popular Internet service of the 90′s, and a means to amplify the shock value of what was to occur…

“You’ve Got Mail!”

His voice echoed loudly throughout the room, and not a second later, everyone’s cell phone went off simultaneously.

Everyone began to look at each other in almost perfect synchronization, pointing fingers- all of them surprised; it had not even yet registered to anyone that he had predicted all of this. All of them were to busy trying to figure out what the fuck was going on…

Everyone…but a single female, sitting in the right corner of the room…
